what is the best accounting software for a small services corporation?


Quick Books Contractors Edition would probably be great and cheap.

Why does the UCC not cover professional services, like accounting, executive search, and consulting?

    Most the people I know use Quickbooks. It OK, but, this stuff is a never ending Bill. Every year they try to hit you with upgrades. IF, your Accounting not too Detailed I would go manual. Use a Dome Accounting Ledger, they available at Office Depot. I used the Weekly.     Office Depot not show on-line but they have them for about this price. I know MORE people use these than Quickbooks. A CPA showed us this little jewel.

    Quickbooks is by far your best value. Its designed for small businesses. Depending on how small you are buy the cheaper or cheapest version and as you grow upgrade to one that helps you establish internal controls. You can even do your invoicing through Quickbooks if you so choose.

    Be careful, Quickbooks is incredibly user friendly to the point that it makes things too easy to change. I’ve spent countless hours reconciling and correcting client’s mistakes. Luckily they’ve made significant improvements to the program over the last 4 to 5 years to help prevent this from happening.

    Also depending on how big you are you probably have an accountant or will eventually have one. You will be hard pressed to find a professional accountant who doesn’t already now Quickbooks or could learn it in a day or so.

    I’m another accountant on the Quickbooks bandwagon. I haven’t seen anything better for small businesses. The have the best tech support of anyone I have ever dealt with. Yes, they do upgrade every year, but you can usually go three years before you upgrade your program. They charge for payroll tax table service, or for a more comprehensive payroll upgrade. These are fees that are well worth it if you are a small company and not real familiar with payroll. It will save money over using a payroll service.
