I am considering my starting my own service as a second income. I would focus on small businesses in my area. I have a good background as a staff accountant in a multi-divisional corp, as well as financial sales and costs analysis. However, I am unsure of the income potential and what the norms are in terms of charges to my potential customers. Obviously, I don’t want to over-charge. Thanks!
I would suggest charging 1 1/2 times the pay rate at which you could get a bookkeeping job. For example, if bookkeepers in your area are making $10.00 an hour working for a company then I would charge $25.00.
Keep in mind that you will have to pay self employment taxes and you will have some business expenses, such as advertising and office supplies, even if you work from home.
Good luck!
